Fees for overdue library books will no longer be collected from December 2022 to March 2023.
Residents who are enrolled as library members and have outstanding fines will not be expected to pay at this time. The council's efforts to support the public through the ongoing cost of living crisis are reflected in this action.
The libraries in Birmingham are now hosting a variety of events every week. A few will continue to function as Warm Welcome locations. Members of the public are not required to be library members and free to walk in.
Eight of the city's libraries offer these. These include Birchfield, Handsworth, Yardley Wood, South Yardley, Stirchley, Sutton Coldfield, and the Library of Birmingham.

Birmingham City University student, Madeline Fox, who often studies in the City Library, shares her viewpoint on this matter:
"The crisis we are all experiencing has resulted in both various problems and many hidden blessings. There is a genuine sense of community and goodwill among people. The library has transformed from a location where I would often study into a warm refuge for the community.
It's hard to see your family go through this situation and struggle right in front of you. It's like you are helpless. But after seeing more campaigns and support measures in place, hopefully, it can only get better from here." She said.
Birmingham City Council is continuing to collaborate with organisations and partners to offer and aid throughout the cost-of-living crisis.
